Support
With all the different types of mattresses available, finding the one that is right for you can be a challenge. Fortunatly, the best mattress for you is really the one you find most comfortable and supportive. The only way to really know is to try each one out. The following guide describes what makes them different and what each has to offer. It will also explain the benefits of each support type. The three main types of support systems found in today's top quality mattresses are: Innerspring Mattresses Innerspring mattresses are by far the most common type of bed. They consist of a metal support layer, providing proper alignment to the back, spine, and body. Above the support layer is the comfort layer. This layer provides pressure relief from the coil system below. These cushioning materials are available in a variety of comfort choices. From 'extra firm' to 'ultra plush' and everything in between. You might have heard that the more coils a mattress has the more supportive the mattress will be. While
this can sometimes be true, coil count is not nearly as critical today as it once was. These days, the combination of
coil count, coil gauge, and type of coil is a much more important factor in determining the overall comfort and support of
the mattress. For example: Viscoelastic Foam Mattresses Viscoelastic foam mattresses, commonly referred to as 'memory foam' are one of the newest technologies in bedding today. They consist of a 1 to 6 inch layer of 'memory foam', bonded to a dense polyurethane foam core. These mattresses use no metal as a support system, therefore, they cause less pressure than a traditional innerspring mattress. The temperature responsive 'memory foam' material softens when the warmth of the body. This allows for full contouring, from head to toe. The material is very durable, most offering double the warranty periods found with traditional innerspring brands. These types of mattresses do have a very unique feel. Firm, but soft. Thick, but contouring. Latex Foam Mattresses Latex mattresses are quickly gaining popularity with today's consumers. Like viscoelastic mattresses, they too use no metal as a support system. The support system consists of a latex layer that is either bonded to a dense polyurethane foam core or a dense latex foam core. Both types offer far less pressure and greater durability than that of a traditional innerspring. Latex is crafted from the milk of the tropical rubber tree, which makes these products an environmentally friendly sleep product. Latex differs from 'memory foam' in that it is more responsive. It contours to the body quickly, giving it a more familiar, 'coil like' feel. Stop in one of our showrooms and let us find the right mattress for you! |
